THE REWARDS OF GIVING BACK
by scott hobbs
(Article last updated: SEPTEMBER, 2026)
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of rolling up my sleeves alongside fellow Salt + Cedar agents, as well as other members of the Monmouth Ocean Regional Realtors’ Equal Opportunity & Cultural Diversity Committee for Realtor Care Day. Partnering with Interfaith Neighbors in Asbury Park, our volunteer team grabbed paint brushes, power tools & garden tools to help a local homeowner with painting, planting, and a full yard cleanup.
Over the years, I've tried to stay involved in the community. Thankfully, I’ve found that since becoming a realtor and a parent, more opportunities have presented themselves to give back to the Jersey Shore area that I love so much. Whether it's catching waves with inspiring families at the POAC Autism Services’ Asbury Park Surf Event, volunteering and celebrating diversity at the 2026 Asbury Park Pride Event, or spending evenings and weekends coaching Little League baseball, or recreation basketball, and soccer, each experience has shaped my perspective.
I have found that supporting local initiatives close to home is tremendously rewarding, which is why I’m proud to announce that I will be an event sponsor for the third consecutive year at the upcoming Ocean Parks 5K. Created by Ocean Township High School graduate Chelsea Matty when she was still a student at OTHS, this community fundraising event takes place on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Joe Palaia Park. This event raises vital funds for the Ocean Township Open Space program in an effort to help keep our local parks and green spaces thriving.
Stay after the 5K for the annual Ocean Township FallFest event, featuring food, music, vendors, crafts (including pumpkin painting), a petting zoo and more. Admission is FREE!!
Being personally involved and supporting these causes isn't about padding a resume or seeking recognition. It offers quiet, personal rewards that stay with you long after the event ends:
Real Human Connection: In a digital-first world, nothing replaces high-fiving a child who just scored their first basket, watching a kid ride their first ocean wave, or seeing a neighbor smile as fresh paint restores pride in their home.
A Grounded Perspective: Serving alongside your neighbors and event organizers pulls you out of your daily stress and grounds you in what truly matters—compassion, patience, and community.
Building a Better Shared Future: When you pour energy into youth sports or positive local causes, you aren't just helping individuals; you’re investing in the culture and safety of the entire area.
Giving back doesn't require giant gestures or full-time commitments. It starts with small, intentional actions—signing up for a local park cleanup, volunteering for an afternoon event, or coaching a single season of youth sports. If you've been looking for a reason to get more involved in our local area, consider this your invitation. The impact on your community is wonderful, but the fulfillment you bring home with you is truly priceless.
I hope to see you all at the Ocean Parks 5K!!

SCOTT HOBBS
I fell in love with the Jersey Shore having spent many summers here ever since I was a small child. I am originally from Scotch Plains, NJ, but I eventually established roots down the shore and have been enjoying the Monmouth County lifestyle for more than two decades. Before entering real estate, I managed my own, highly successful, business working directly with Fortune 500 companies. There I sharpened and perfected my service, negotiating, and deal-making skills. I employ those strengths every day for the best interests of my clients, whether they are buying or selling property. I have traveled extensively around the world and during one visit to Colombia, I met my beautiful wife, Paola. Today we are raising our young son in Ocean Township.
